Know Your Value

proveyourvalue

Everyone has that friend, where they post everything on Facebook or any type of social media. You know, the one that shares that their cat just fell off the couch type? The friend that shares they just got the new and improved electronic that is all the rage right now. It is only natural to be jealous, to post something of equal value. To get the attention they are right now.

We live in a world where nothing is private, the contents of our home is for the world to see. Even I fall to such petty actions, as posting the new and improved something or another. As of late however I have begun to change what I post on Facebook, because the world does not need to know what I have, for me to appreciate it.

So the point I’m trying to get at, learning how to know your value. Weather it be in yourself or what you surround yourself with. Why be jealous of the friend who seemingly has everything, just because its posted on social media? Did you know that you may have something just as great, if not greater in your own possession?

So you may not have that grand TV and sound system in your living room, instead you have maybe a 32-40 inch flat screen and a dvd player. You may have internet, you may have one or two computers, and a gaming console. You may work a full time or part time job, and struggle to feed your family or just make enough to make ends meet. Yet, you still want more, to prove that your not below poverty.

In America alone, more than 45 million people, or 14.5 percent of all Americans, that lived below the poverty line last year. – so reads Huffington post, 45 Million Americans Still Stuck Below Poverty Line: Census

With that being said, you may be at that point or close. I know in the area I live in, your lucky if you are able to live on your own and support yourself. These days you need to live with friends or family just to make it. So why are we still so stuck on needing the greatest and best stuff? Why are we still stuck on needing to one up our friends or neighbors?

Look around you, look at yourself in the mirror. Are you alive? Do you have a home with four walls? Do you have heat, electricity, water, food? Do you have clothes, and shoes on your feet? If you answered all that yes, then you need to take a hard look at what you have. A good percentage of the world would give anything to have most of that. To have a home to sleep in, a full belly, a warm shower, and good company.

You may not have the latest and greatest. You may not be the most popular; but at least you have two strong legs to help you stand, and good enough health to live to a comfortable old age. Take what you have and be happy for it, take value in yourself. You don’t need to post about it on social media for attention. Just learn that what you have is just perfect as it is. If your meant to have better then through trial and hard work, you will get there.

Happiness comes from accepting what is, not wanting for more. letting go of negativity and the price of material things.

Anyway, This may seem kinda random but it was just a thought that floated through my mind. Figured Id share for those who feel they never have enough.

Until next time.
